A sexually transmitted disease can cause a range of symptoms in people that can sometimes mask itself as a common medical condition. That’s why it is so important to know how to detect symptoms of STDs, where and how you can get tested and treated, and how preventing them in the first place can be the key to having a healthy and safe sexual life.

STDs that are most common include hepatitis, Chlamydia, syphilis, HIV, herpes, and gonorrhea. These diseases are transmitted through the exchange of bodily fluid or from open sores on an infected person’s skin. Treatment of the disease is generally as easy as a round of antibiotics. However, if you have contracted a viral STD such as HIV, hepatitis, or herpes you will always have the disease but treatment is available.

The question of whether or not to seek testing for STDs is one that looms over the lives of many young adults. Men and women wonder if they need to be tested for sexually transmitted diseases. They wonder if they should request a partner to be tested. Many people just want to learn more about sexually transmitted diseases and STD tests. Because knowledge is power, gaining as much information on this subject as possible can only help one to do more in terms of prevention.

Seeking information regarding sexually transmitted diseases such as herpes or Chlamydia is wise for anyone who is interested in learning how to increase prevention. Men and women who have engaged in intercourse or other sexual acts with another person without protection such as a condom, female condom or other barrier, should talk to a counselor regarding STD tests. Doing so can give the assurance of health and also inform a person and their partner of the best ways they can protect themselves now and in the future.

If testing for STDs is requested, a counselor will ask questions in order to determine which test or tests should be conducted. The questions counselors ask when determining STD tests include information about person’s sexual practices; is a condom used? Are there any symptoms of STDs? Has any medication been used to treat symptoms such as sores? Questions should be answered openly and honestly in order to get proper testing.

Usually people do not see their doctor for an STD test until they see some sort of symptoms that alert them of a possible infection. Even when a sexually transmitted disease has been contracted symptoms can take some time to show up. So if you are ever in doubt as to the history of your partner with whom you have been intimate with, you can call for an STD test. Because symptoms often never show up, a sexually transmitted disease can progress into complications that are quite serious. Therefore the best plan of action is to take measures to prevent an STD infection instead of having to treat an STD.

There are a lot of men who ignore the fact that they can be infected with sexually transmitted diseases. Some do not have the interest to think about it. What they do not know is that STDs are so common nowadays that it can infect just about anybody. It is important for men who are sexually active to have their regular STD test. It is also equally important that men should also be educated with the information about STDs.

There are many different types of STDs that people experience these days. It is important that if one feels or notices any signs or symptoms, he or she should immediately consult the doctor for medical assistance. There are different types of STDs and one should be able to identify what type of disease has infected him before a treatment may be given. Some of the most common STDs include bacterial and viral infections. Some common symptoms of these STDs include discharge from the penis, painful sex, or pain during urination. The most common STDs are bacterial infections. There are many different symptoms of bacterial STDs including redness and or soreness in the genital area, tongue or throat, rash on palms or feet, discolored urine, light colored stools, or yellowish skin and eyes.

Though men may experience less health complications compared to women, they are still in great danger with the infectio of STDs. If these diseases are left untreated, they can lead to serious health problems for the patient. This is why getting tested as soon as the patient notices signs or symptoms are important. STD testing on men may differ from women. This is because women are more likely to have more complications than men. Depending on the type of STD, testing can differ. Some involves taking urine, while other testing is a simple blood test.

STD testing may be done at your local testing center. Call us to locate the nearest center. STD testing is easy to find. In order to avoid all the hassles of treatment, one may practice preventive measures such as getting both partners tested before they enter into a physical relationship. Also, one of the most common prevention is the use of condoms. Proper and consistent use of condoms can reduce one’s risk from STD infection.

STD stands for sexually transmitted diseases. STDs are infections that people usually get by having sex with someone who already has one. Anyone can get caught with this type of disease. And it does not choose anybody in particular to victimize. You are at high risk if you are sexually active, have multiple sex partners or do not practice safe sex.

Some STDs may be curable and others treatable. Many STDs do not show any symptoms which makes it difficult for anyone to detect who is infected and who is not. And even though some of these diseases are curable; they can still give severe health damages to its patients if left untreated. These curable diseases are often caused by bacteria and transmitted through sexual activities. Examples of these are Chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, urinary and vaginal infections.

HIV and Hepatitis are examples of incurable STDs. These diseases have no cure at all. This means that the virus will stay in the patient’s system for life. This can create different complications which may eventually lead to death. Whether the disease is caused by bacteria or virus, STD is still something that one should give attention to. It is a serious matter that needs utmost and prompt action.

Health complications associated with STDs are severe pain and may make you very sick. A few can even cause death. It also makes it hard for a woman to get pregnant if she is infected. It may also cause birth defects or other health problems for a newborn.

The best way to detect STD infections is through STD testing. Local STD testing is done by taking urine or blood samples from the patient. The sample will be then tested in a laboratory. Results are available in a couple of days. The important thing about STD testing is that it can detect infection right away for early treatment. This may prevent further health complications to the patients and stop the spread of the disease onto other people. STD testing actually aims to manage the spreading of the disease and its rise in its number of cases.

There are several ways to protect you of getting infected with sexually transmitted diseases (STD). It is not easy to deal with very dreadful diseases like STDs. So, it is better to take preventive measures rather than suffer from it. STDs are not just simple illnesses like fever or colds that can be cured in a few days. STD requires several weeks, months or even years of treatment but still there is no assurance that you are totally safe from it. So, why take the risk? Preventive measures are just easy to follow and they can save your life.

First, make sure your partner is clean. You have to know your partner’s past and present sexual relationships. This way, you may know if he or she is in high risk for infection. It is a good idea to have him or her tested for STD’s to be sure. Also, check for possible symptoms. See if your partner has sores, lumps or rashes. If symptoms are present, you may have to get them tested.

Second, use latex protection. This is the most helpful tool to avoid contracting STD. This should always be a must every time you have sex. If you are to have sex without it, be sure that your partner is clean and safe.

Lastly, practice monogamy. Having multiple sex partners put you in high risk of getting infected with STD. You may never know who has it and not.

These are just simple preventive actions to follow for a better and safer living. Being infected with an STD will also hinder one from enjoying his or her sexual life. In order to enjoy it follow these steps.

If one is having doubts that he or she contracted STD, then an STD test may be taken. STD testing is done very easily and results are given in a quick turnaround time. Samples from the patient are taken like urine or blood. After laboratory testing, results should be ready in a few days. Be cautious of any facility that gives you same day results or results within 20 min. They are usually lower grade tests with a lower percentage for accuracy.

Confidential STD testing clinics offer private STD testing. This is for people who want to be tested in a more confidential manner.

Teenage years are the times that a person may experience and enjoy everything that life can give them. This is a time for carelessness and enjoyment. However, statistics say that most STD cases today are from the younger generation. Aside from unplanned pregnancy, STD infection is widely spread among the young people. Statistically speaking they have the most number of cases in the U.S.

Parents may have a vital role in preventing their children from being infected with sexually transmitted diseases. Parents may guide their children on relationships and values. Parents should also be the ones who should give the first hand information about sex and STDs. This will assure the children that what they are getting is true and correct. The more information the teens get the more protected they are from getting infected from diseases.

Many teens get infected with different diseases is because they lack vital information. Younger people should be the ones getting most of the information about STDs because they are the ones more susceptible to these diseases. A young body is not yet fully developed and this means that their ability to fight any bacteria or virus is not yet that strong. This makes them more vulnerable to diseases.

Aside from lack of information, teens get easily infected because of their social activities. Young people are more careless. Many would just jump into something without thinking about it first. Some are not into using condoms and others are embarrassed to buy condoms because of their age. Another thing is peer pressure. Teenagers always want to be accepted by their friends. They simply go along with what their friends are telling them. They are also most likely to use drugs and alcohol which inhibits one to engage into unprotected sex.

To help the teens be protected from STDs, they should be given correct information about it. This will help them know what to do for prevention and what to do in case infection is already present. Parents should also guide their children so that they will always think of what they are doing.

There are several ways to be protected. One is by abstinence until marriage. If one does not engage in sexual activities, one will not be infected with any sexually transmitted diseases. If one is to be sexually active the best way to protect yourself is by the use of condoms in combination with being tested before you enter into a physical relation.

In case of infection, teens are more likely to be ashamed of the situation. Parents may take them to an STD testing clinic where a confidential STD testing is done. This is to keep the identity of the patient in private. This is also to gain the trust of the young patient to get into treatment right away.

Std Testing should be a regular routine for anyone that is sexually active regardless of age or the amount of sexual partners.

Pelvic inflammatory disease or PID is the infection of the uterus, fallopian tubes and other reproductive organs of women. This is a common complication of sexually transmitted diseases like Chlamydia and gonorrhea. PID can damage the fallopian tubes and tissues in and near the uterus and ovaries. PID can cause further reproductive health problems such as infertility, ectopic pregnancy, abscess formation, and chronic pelvic pain.

It has been reported that more and more women are suffering from PID every year. This simply means that Chlamydia and gonorrhea are still on the rise. So, when does a PID happens? PID occurs when the bacteria moves up from the vagina to the cervix and other reproductive organs. Once infected, it can deeply damage the woman’s reproductive organs. Sexually active women in their childbearing years are most at risk, and those under age 25 are more likely to develop PID than those older than 25. This is because young women’s bodies are not yet fully developed, so its ability to fight any bacteria is not yet that strong. Women who douche may have a higher risk of developing PID compared with women who do not douche. Research has shown that douching changes the vaginal organisms in harmful ways, and can force bacteria into the upper reproductive organs from the vagina.

Women who are suffering from PID may show symptoms like lower abdominal pain, fever, unusual vaginal discharge that may have a foul odor, painful intercourse, painful urination, irregular menstrual bleeding, and pain in the right upper abdomen.

PID may be detected through an STD testing. If Chlamydia is detected and symptoms of like that of PID are present, then the patient is suffering from pelvic inflammatory disease. Aside from an STD testing, ultrasound can also detect PID. The health care provider may determine which test should be given to a patient.

PID may be treated. PID can be cured with several types of antibiotics. Depending on the test results, the doctor may determine what type of treatment should be given to the patient. If the case is advanced, then treatment may have to be longer. The antibiotics given are just for the PID infection and not for the complications that the disease has given. It may also be possible that re-infection may happen. In case like this, additional medications will be given. And regular reproductive health screening will be conducted. This also goes to the other patients who were diagnosed of STD. This is to reassure that the disease will be completely gone and health of the patient is well monitored.

STIs or sexually transmitted infections are infections you can get by having sex with someone infected with it. These infections are usually passed by having vaginal intercourse, but they can also be passed through anal sex, oral sex or skin-to-skin contact. STIs can be caused by viruses or bacteria. If one has had sex, then one is at risk of becoming infected with STI. People who are at high risk are those who have an active sex life and do not practice protected sex.

There are different types of STIs, but most of the time, their symptoms appear to be similar. Some of these symptoms are itching around the vagina and/or discharge from the vagina for women, discharge from the penis for men, pain during sex or when urinating, pain in the pelvic area, sore throats in people who have oral sex, pain in or around the anus for people who have anal sex, chancre sores on the genital area, anus, tongue or throat, scaly rash on the palms of your hands and the soles of your feet, dark urine, loose, light-colored stools, and yellow eyes and skin, small blisters that turn into scabs on the genital area, swollen glands, fever and body aches, unusual infections, unexplained fatigue, night sweats and weight loss and soft, flesh-colored warts around the genital area.

If one of these symptoms occurs, the person may need to take an STD test. This will confirm if he or she is infected with STI. There are affordable STD testing that is conducted in local Laboratories, or if the patient would like to get tested on the same day, a quick STD testing may be given. They can have the results in as quickly as three business days. And if one needs some privacy on his or her testing, STD testing clinics are now offering private, confidential or anonymous STD testing. This provides more confidentiality to the identity of the patient and his or her test results.

There are lots of testing methods that a patient may choose from. He or she need not hesitate because this can actually save his or her life. As we all know, STDs when left untreated may result to further health complications. Some of these complications are reproductive health damage, nervous system problems, heart problems, brain damage, pneumonia, cancers and even death.

Having STI should not be ignored. These should be detected early and treated promptly. These are major life threatening infections. These may be prevented before it gets to you. The best prevention one can do is to abstain from sex. Of course, STIs are sexually transmitted. So, if you do not do the act, then you will not get infected with it. Another thing is to limit your sex partners. Changing or having multiple sex partners can increase one’s risk for infection. And lastly, if all things fail, just use a condom and make sure both partners get tested before entering into a physical relationship.

Sexually transmitted diseases are not as unusual as people may think. Statistics show that about 50 million people all over the world acquire sexually transmitted diseases in just a single year. With that kind of number, one would be inclined to ask what the most common STD is. Let this article give you the answers to that question, and include some details on them as well.

The first and the most common STD is called Chlamydia. However, it is one that has a cure, and has had a very high cure rate all over the world. It infects the insides of the genital area, such as the cervix in women, and the urethra in men. The main reason by which Chlamydia has qualified to be the most common STD is because the symptoms that tells a person that he or she has Chlamydia do not appear for at least a few days, to usually up until several months after acquiring the disease. So the best thing to do with this is if there is any possibility or if there is any suspicion that one has made contact with someone who has that sexually transmitted disease, is to get tested in order to ensure the absence of this common STD. Condoms are anyone’s best protection against STD, but then again, this would only protect a person in some sexual activities.

Another common STD on the list is gonorrhea, which was given the nickname “clap.” The symptoms experienced in this STD caused by a specific strain of bacteria, is very similar to those seen with Chlamydia. Even the effects experienced by people who have had this STD for a lengthy period of time are similar to those with Chlamydia. The organs that are involved in the infection are also the same. The main symptoms that a person who has gonorrhea might experience would be pain similar to a burning sensation while urinating, and pus discharges for men, and unusual discharges from the vagina in women. One other extra thing that may distinguish gonorrhea from Chlamydia is that one can also get infected by way of one’s throat through oral sex.

Syphilis is another common STD that may be difficult to manage. A person may acquire syphilis if he or she was able to come in direct contact with a sore, thus sexual activities are sure- fire ways to get this common STD. Sores will appear where the germs have come into contact with a newly infected person, such as the genital area and even the mouth area. Syphilis must be treated immediately in order to avoid further complications. Treatment of this disease and the absence of visible sores are not determinants that it has already been cured. In fact, there is a very high probability that the bacteria are still inside the body and spreading throughout. During the last stages of syphilis, though, the infected person may no longer be contagious. However, care must be taken by a woman carrying a child inside her womb, as the disease will be passed on to the unborn child.

In order to be extremely sure that you have not acquired any of these common STDs, you may want to contact your us immediately, especially if you are sexually active. You could talk to us about the different types of tests that are available and which are most accurate. An accurate diagnosis is necessary in order to help an infected person know what to expect and know how to treat their infections in order to control outbreaks and live in the best health possible.

On the news and in newspapers and magazines the public is presented with new studies and statistics regarding HIV/AIDS. Additionally, both the American and global public should also recognize that Chlamydia, one of the most common sexually transmitted infections across continents, is equally dangerous and rapidly claiming victims, specifically, women and young adults. Because, like many STDs, Chlamydia is typically asymptomatic, sexually active persons cannot be passive about their sexual health. With quick action, doctors can treat a case of Chlamydia with a combination of antibiotics.

Behind the Cloak

Chlamydia infects nearly 3 million people in the United States alone. While most people understand that STDs are transmitted through intercourse (vaginal and anal), those participating in unprotected sexual activities with multiple partners should remember that like most other STDs Chlamydia can be transmitted during oral sex.

Two Major Symptoms

Chlamydia causes two major infections, in the eyes and genitals. Specifically, Chlamydia can cause trachoma, which leads to blindness. While once the leading cause of blindness in the world, a 2002 study conducted by The World Health Organization shows that there has been an eleven percent decline in Chlamydia related blindness since the mid 1990s. Like conjunctivitis, or as it is more colloquially known, “pink eye”, trachoma is highly contagious and can be transmitted from eye-to-eye by fingers, shared towels, pillows, blankets, etc, and through coughing and sneezing. The second symptom is an infection of the genitals.

Men Only

For men, there are noticeable physical symptoms of an infected urethra indicating that you may be positive for Chlamydia. However, the signs only show in about 50 percent of all transmissions. Thats reffered as being asymptomatic meaning that you carry the disease yet show no signs or symptoms. These signs include painful urination, cloudy-colored discharge from the penis, swollen/tender testicles, and in some cases, fever.

Ladies Only

Chlamydia appears to be most prevalent among women and young adults. That is, women are infected with Chlamydia 3 times as much as men while young adults, ages 15 to 24 carry the infection 5 times more than the general sexually active population. Specifically for women, Chlamydia can infect the cervix, showing no symptoms in 75 percent of all cases. Those women who do experience symptoms however, may notice vaginal bleeding/discharge, abdominal pain, fever, and frequent urination. If left undetected by a doctor a woman can develop pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), affecting the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries, ultimately causing infertility or various pregnancy complications. Women who have Chlamydia and become pregnant can pass the infection to their child if delivered vaginally. Chlamydia causes nearly half a million cases of PID and those who test positive are 5 times more likely to contract HIV.

Epic Proportions

Routine STD testing is a necessary aspect of healthy living made all the more vital by the tendency for STDs to be asymptomatic. Therefore, one cannot be passive about one’s sexual health, taking action only when something looks or feels problematic. If left untreated, serious physical problems can develop. Making an appointment to be tested can be done over the phone.

Syphilis is a bacterial infection that is spread through direct contact with a resulting sore. These sores can be found around the genitals, anus and mouth. Similar to other STD’s such as Chlamydia, a person that has syphilis can not show any symptoms or the symptoms can go unrecognized. You can transmit this disease during stage 1 and stage 2 when the sores are present.

The primary stage of this sexually transmitted disease is marked by the appearance of a single sore. This sore can be described as firm, round, small and painless. If treatment is received during the primary stage, the person can be cured and the disease would not progress. If left untreated the disease will progress to the secondary stage and become more dangerous. Just because the sore goes away does not mean that you have been cured of the disease. Syphilis will continue to spread throughout your body.

The second stage is characterized in both men and women by skin rashes or lesions in the mucous membranes. The rashes associated with Syphilis can appear on any part of the body and do not cause itching. They can last for a few weeks or a few months. Other signs of the secondary stage are swollen glands, fever, hair loss, weight loss and sore muscles. Since these signs are fairly common to multiple illnesses they can be easily ignored which can lead to the latent stage of syphilis. As with stage 1, if left untreated these symptoms may go away in 1 to 9 months, but this does not mean that the disease has been cured.

The latent stage of Syphilis can cause many serious issues including muscle, joint and organ damage. During the beginning of this stage the person will be symptom-free and probably believe that whatever they had just went away. During the late stages they can start to have difficulty with muscle movements, paralysis, numbness, gradual blindness and dementia which could lead to death. Similar to Chlamydia, a pregnant mother can spread the disease to her newborn child. The child can develop seizures, developmental delays or even possibly die from this disease.

No matter what STD you may have, from genital herpes to HIV, it is important to see a doctor as quickly as possible for diagnosis and treatment. Many of these conditions can be treated and cured with antibiotic drugs if they are caught in time. Syphilis can be cured, but if severe damage has occurred to the body it can be almost impossible to repair. As with many other sexually transmitted diseases you are more susceptible to other more serious illnesses such as HIV/AIDS when you have them. You need to stop sexually activity immediately if you feel you may be at risk. Therefore, if you have Syphilis it is a good idea to be tested for other diseases such as gonorrhea and HIV. In order to determine when you have been cured, you will need to go back to the doctor for repeated blood tests. Once they have determined that there are no more diseased cells in your blood you will know that the Syphilis is gone. It is extremely important to follow-up with your doctors as they request.

The only means of prevention from Syphilis is to not have sex with someone that is infected. If you are sexually active, condoms may help but they are not 100% effective. This is why regular testing of both yourself and your partners is extremely important to your long-term health.
